Y11 History pupils recently visited Thackray Medical Museum in Leeds as part of their Medicine Through Time course. They spent the day learning about Victorian medicine, public health and surgery as they walked through a dark and dirty 1840s street, tested their ability as a surgeon and charted the development of the fight against disease. All students were given a character whose life they had to follow throughout the museum in order to gain a detailed understanding of what life was really like before the discovery of germs and the establishment of the NHS. An engaging and educational day was had by all!
