On Tuesday 9th February 2016 we held our first ever ‘Careers Evening’ for our current Year 8 pupils. This gave students the opportunity to think about their future career pathways, especially with their forthcoming options choices for GCSE, and their life after CCSC.

After a brief introduction by Mrs Waterhouse and Miss Bailey, students and parents were able to explore freely the different elements to the evening.

Local colleges and apprenticeship schemes were set up in the main hall which allowed students to discuss their plans on an individual basis. At the same time, the library was bustling with students eager to speak to prefects about their option choices, as well as a trained nurse for pupils to get advice from. Miss Moscati and Miss Torr were also on hand to help out with career quizzes and general advice.  The ICT suite was open for students to ‘test their personalities’ and see what career would suit them most, whilst Mr Mackin gave both pupils and parents a ‘GCSE History taster’, to experience what the course really entails.

Overall, the evening was an absolute success and we were very impressed, not only by the superb attendance numbers, but also by how maturely the Year 8s took to the evening and thought about their future. Following this, we have received some excellent feedback from the visiting colleges. We look forward to inviting the Year 8 students and parents back in April for the next step – Options Evening.
