Thirteen pupils and seven staff have taken part in the first ever CCSC Senior and Junior Mastermind competition held over a series of lunchtimes in the library. Lucy Moss, in her House Captain role led the questioning on a range of subject specialist rounds ranging from Dragon Ball Z to Parasitology (only a science teacher would pick that!) Lucie Owen had the important job of scoring each round.

Mr Mackin and Miss Collis faced some challenging and thought-provoking questions on Harry Potter, Olivia Sumnall showed a solid understanding of Jewellery whilst Amy Hoang scored an impressive 8/10 on her specialist topic ‘William Shakespeare.’ The event, held over five lunchtimes, led to two finals that were hotly contested.

The Junior Finalists were: Owen Roberts, Sam Roberts, Jay Hargreaves, Aaron Arthur, Thomas Everson and Thomas Xioutas.

The Staff Finalists were: Miss Durrant, Mr Powell, Mr Hobson and Mr Cartledge.

The eventual winner of the Junior Mastermind trophy was Jay Hargreaves who showed a strong specialist subject knowledge round on Port Vale and a good all round general knowledge with ‘Alcatraz’ being his winning answer for the question about the film, ‘The Rock.’ Jay said, ‘I don’t want to get out of this Mastermind chair, I think it suits me!’

The staff winner was Mr Powell who was humble in his victory. He said, ‘It’s not the taking part that counts it’s the winning!’

Thanks go to the four house captains who hosted the event: Jade Miklasiewicz, Lucie Owen, Lucie Moss and Darcie Bagguley.
