Yesterday the U15 Girls Handball squad went to St George’s Park for the County level tournament as Newcastle under Lyme District Champions.

The girls participated in a round robin tournament which involved playing each school once and resulted in 5 games in total with the squad registering an impressive 3 wins and 2 narrow defeats. I am sure if you speak to the girls they will tell you their disappointment in the manner of the defeat to Haywood High school especially!

Anyway, this meant the girls finishing 2nd overall in the league and through to the semi finals. Unfortunately, the semi final didn’t go to plan and the girls were narrowly defeated but they were still in contention for a medal as this defeat put them in the 3rd/4th place play off.

The playoff was a tense affair with the girls having attack after attack but the ball would not go in with the opposition ‘keeper having an inspired performance. So the game went to a golden goal decider which further helped to shred the nerves. However, straight from the restart our girls got the ball forward to Beth LK who leapt in the air and put a fierce throw past the ‘Keeper and in to the far left hand corner! This resulted in a well deserved 3rd place finish!

The medal is just reward for the effort the girls put in and they were standing shoulder to shoulder with schools who obviously played a lot more handball at their schools…remember this squad of girls have only had 1 hour of practice!

Give the girls a massive well done for their performance and excellent representation of the school.
