Mrs Stephens' Year 9 class have been studying the topic of euthanasia in lessons as part of a 'Non-Fiction Language Skills' unit. Students have researched and examined the cases of Alfie Evans and Charlie Guard; two very sad but poignant controversies that highlighted the difficulties of making an end-of-life decision. Following this, the class participated in a heated debate in which the pupils had to counter arguments about who should make these vital decisions. The writing task set centred around doctors vs judges and who should make the final decision about medical treatment. Lizzie, being unable to argue that it should be the parents or the child in question, went away and wrote a very heartfelt and passionate letter. It is excellent to see a student feel so passionate about a topic and it is also very impressive to see a student willing to spend their own time creating a piece of writing that expresses her emotions in such a vivid yet articulate way.
