On Thursday, Year 11 History pupils visited Thackray Medical Museum in Leeds as part of the Medicine Through Time course. The students received an interesting talk about Public Health Reforms in the Industrial Era before they walked through the reconstructed streets of this time period inside the museum itself. We got to see and smell what 1840s Leeds was like to live in and we left with a better understanding of why disease spread so quickly at this time and what changes were made to improve people's lives. Pupils also discovered whether they had what it took to be a surgeon in the 1800s by testing their strength, reaction times and steadiness. It was a lot harder than it looked! We're now looking forward to applying this experience to the up-coming mock exams.
