Creative iMedia is the vocational pathway within the Computing department at CCSC. It is designed for pupils who enjoy the creative, practical side of digital technology and want to develop real-world media production skills.

The course builds on the digital literacy and creative foundations developed in Key Stage 3 and allows pupils to specialise in creating professional digital products. Pupils learn how media products are planned, designed and produced, developing skills that are highly valued across many industries.

Creative iMedia combines creativity with technical skill, preparing pupils for further study and employment in the fast-growing digital and media sectors.

Why Creative iMedia?

Look around you. Logos, adverts, social media, websites, apps, comics, branding — all of these are carefully designed media products. Behind every successful product is a team of creative designers who understand how to communicate effectively with an audience.

Creative iMedia gives pupils the opportunity to move from simply consuming digital content to creating it.

This course is ideal for pupils who:

  • Enjoy design and creativity
  • Like working on practical projects
  • Want to develop digital production skills
  • Are interested in careers in media, marketing, gaming, branding or digital design

The UK’s creative industries are one of the fastest-growing sectors of the economy, and digital media skills are increasingly important in almost every career pathway.

What Will You Learn?

Creative iMedia is a practical and engaging course where pupils apply their knowledge to real design briefs.

You will learn to:

  • Understand how the media industry works
  • Analyse and respond to client briefs
  • Plan and create professional digital graphics
  • Design original characters and comic strips
  • Develop creative ideas for specific target audiences
  • Use industry-standard software confidently and independently

The course develops creativity, independence, organisation, problem-solving and evaluative skills — all of which are highly transferable.

How Will You Be Assessed?

Creative iMedia is assessed through a combination of coursework and an external examination.

  • Two Non-Examined Assessment (coursework) units completed in Years 9 and 10
  • One examined unit completed in Year 11

The coursework units are practical and completed in controlled conditions, based on live briefs set by the exam board.
The examined unit assesses understanding of the media industry, planning and pre-production.
