On the morning of Thursday the 22nd January, 140 pupils from all GCSE Art, Design and Graphics courses in KS4 were privileged to take part in a rare presentation from Nigel Walker, founder and managing director of the multi million dollar New York based company, That’s Nice Design.
The presentation focused on how starting at GCSE level from any personal background can open up career pathways within the art world that pupils may never have considered.
Nigel described his personal journey and the influences that led him from similar backgrounds as the pupils at CCSC to where he is today as the CEO of a global company. That's Nice Design works primarily within the science and pharmaceutical industries to provide promotion, branding and a wide range of related services.
He also explored the design process, covering inspirations from classical art pieces to sketching and the developmental process and end products. Nigel ended with an exploration of the different jobs available, the current trends and the attributes the industry looks for in potential employees. This was indeed a rare opportunity to hear from a key player in a company at the top of the design world.
As a school we will be maintaining links with Nigel and That’s Nice to further promote and assist pupils in the development of their career pathways into the art industry.
Many thanks to Nigel Walker for taking time out of his busy international schedule to talk with our year 9,10 and 11 pupils.
