At the end of last term, 130 students went to Chester Zoo to have a hands-on experience of the adaptations of the rainforest animals we have been learning about in geography lessons. In the weeks leading up to the trip, students learned about; the location and climates of rainforests, the conditions and people of the rainforest, how the rainforest is under threat of being destroyed at alarming rates and how the animals have adapted for survival of the unique conditions.
Chester Zoo has examples of many rainforest animals including the red eyed tree frog, the great hornbill and even a pitcher plant to name a few. Students had a workshop led by Chester’s very own Zoo Keepers where they learned about the adaptations of the animals they have at the zoo.
Although wet, a wonderful day was had by all and now the students can really imagine what life is like in the rainforest.
