Year 7 pupils have been learning about the Battle of Hastings in their History lessons. After studying the theory in the classroom, they performed a re-enactment of the battle on the school field. History teacher, Mr L Mackin, took the pupils back to Saturday 14th October 1066, as he set the scene for the battle using the grass banks adjoining the field as Senlac Hill, the original battle site.
The pupils used replica shields, weapons and costumes as they took on the roles of the original combatants. The field was the scene of dramatic activity as Harold and the Saxons faced off against William, Duke of Normandy, and his Norman troops.
The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the lesson and it made the topic very memorable for them.
The shields, weapons and costumes were kindly lent to the school by Big Heritage, an educational social enterprise which has an excellent working partnership with CCSC.
