This past week saw the inaugural session of the new Modelling History Club. Run by Mr Dunn the club has members from all years and more interested in joining the next session. The Club started as part of Airfix’s Guardian of History Project to mark the Centenary of The Great War.
The aims of the club are to explore key events and machinery of The Great War, through modelling and some tutorial based lessons. The activities started this week with discussions about the model building experience of the members, the end results from the group modelling and then the fun began as all became very busy assembling model kits of The Great War Male Mk.1 tanks. The overall group project will look towards the construction of a representation of a Great War battlefield, both group and air conflict.
Pupils will build and paint the tanks mentioned, Sopwith Camel Biplanes and Fokker DR1 Triplanes, and learn interpersonal skills, mix with pupils from other year groups with a shared interest, modelling skills and history along the way.
The Club meets every Tuesday after school 3-4 p.m. Any pupils interested in joining the club or wanting to learn more please see Mr Dunn in Room 20.
