In history this week Mr Mackin’s Year 9 class have been studying the threats to the Weimar Republic in order to try and work out: “Who was the biggest threat to the Weimar Republic in 1932?”
To do this pupils studied historical sources in order to come to a conclusion as to who the key players were in the fall of the republic and why these people were such a threat. Finally pupils considered which side of the political spectrum these people gained their support from. Once the sources had been studied pupils used the skills which they had learnt in Maths to plot scatter graphs to show:
-
-
- The threat each person posed to the republic
- The support that each person gained from the right wing of German politics
- The support that each person gained from the left wing of German politics.
-
Once the graphs were completed pupils then drew a line of best fit to help them identify trends.
To complete the lesson pupils enjoyed using the data they had gathered to create pokemon style cards of the right and left wing leaders. The teachers in both the History Department and the Maths Department agreed that this cross curricular approach was of benefit to both subjects.
