The central quadrangle at CCSC has just undergone major refurbishment and the result is a fantastic new outside social space. The entire area has been fitted with lovingly hand crafted wooden decking. The especially ordered decking is of sustainable environmentally friendly timber and has a non-slip safety surface.

The large enclosed space has steps which can serve as additional seating at one end, with inbuilt safety lighting on the risers. There is extra integral seating around the shrub borders as well as free standing benches. The main central area features two large permanent canopies which serve as protection from sun or rain as well as adding a contemporary design element. A covered walkway links two school corridors.

The new area is needed because of record numbers of pupils choosing Chesterton Community Sports College as their first choice secondary school. The expansion of the school is due to a number of factors, not least the excellent GCSE results, with 75% of students achieving 5 or more GCSE grades C or above including English and Maths.

All the planning and workmanship on the decking was carried out by the dedicated, talented and hard working site supervisor team of Mr G Gribbin, Mr T Dayson and Mr A Wild.

Mr R Swindells, Associate Headteacher, praised the work of the site supervisors and said: "The new area is a fantastic facility for our pupils".
