On Wednesday 21st January all of year 7 took part in the PSCHE morning. During the morning pupils explored issues relating to their personal Health and Safety around three key topics of road safety, puberty and Heartstart.
The road safety session focused on reducing risk related behaviour on and around roads as a pedestrian and was delivered by the Staffordshire County Council Road Safety Team.
The puberty session was delivered by school nurse, Liz Challinor, and reinforced work she delivered in the primaries during KS2 and expanded into age specific body changes, advice, reassurance and where to seek help if pupils had any questions. Pupils will explore this area in more detail in both PSCHE lessons and as part of their Science lessons this term.
The Heartstart session involved specifically trained CCSC staff delivering the full British Heart Foundation Heartstart programme. The programe includes; dealing with an unconscious casualty, serious bleeding, suspected heart attacks, choking and full CPR including rescue breaths.
The morning was very productive and allowed pupils to explore a range of issues in an alternative way as part of their integrated PSCHE and cross-curricular programme.
