historyoptionsnightYear 8 pupils have taken part in the Options Process over the last fortnight, to choose the subjects that they will study in Years 9, 10 and 11 for their GCSEs.

There is an impressive range of choices available including: Drama, ICT, Media, Psychology, Textiles, Food and Nutrition, Music, Dance, PE, Italian, Computer Science, Fine Art, Graphics, Health and Social Care, Art and Design and Resistant Materials. As many of these are new subjects to Year 8, all the pupils took part in 'taster sessions' during their timetabled lessons in associated subjects to give them an insight into what the course would involve. Feedback from pupils indicated how many of them really appreciated this opportunity and found it enabled them to make more informed choices.

On Options Evening on Thursday 30th April, there was a short talk in the hall followed by the chance to visit the different subjects. The library hosted the Performing Arts, Maths, MFL and Art departments whilst room 11 housed the English, Science and Humanities departments. Some subjects met pupils and parents in their specialised teaching areas and these included ICT and Computer Science in rooms 5 and 6 and Technology in room 30. The PE department was based in room 14 for the evening.

The Careers Service and representatives from Newcastle College and South Cheshire College also attended to advise pupils about post 16 pathways and the impact on option choices.

Attendance at the evening was excellent and there was a fantastic atmosphere as pupils, parents / carers and teachers discussed the learning opportunities in key stage 4 at CCSC.
