Sports Day took place at Chesterton Community Sports College on Friday 3rd July. The day began with an inspirational assembly before the whole school headed to the field to begin the athletics events. There was a real air of excitment as the four houses started their day of competition, led by their new house captains. Megan Futter (Shakespeare), Jacob Walton (Bannister), Matthew Ray (Elgar) and Cara Landers (Newton) had done a fantastic job of organising the teams and were outstanding role models on the day. There was very enthusiastic support for the competitors as the track races got underway and the tug of war teams hauled away on the ropes. As well as traditional athletics everyone enjoyed the entertaining 3 legged races and egg and spoon races.

After a short break the second block of activities included; girls' football, netball, boys' rounders, chess and draughts tournaments and  a 'Question of Sport' competition. In a new initiative this year, members of the School Council sold refreshments to spectators during the events and this proved very popular in the hot and sunny weather. With a steady stream of results coming into the PE office throughout the day, it was evident that the houses were very evenly matched.

The final activity block of the day gave pupils the opportunity to compete in football, table tennis, trampolining, rounders, will sports and the ever popular aquazumba. After the action packed day of unique sporting competition, everyone returned to the hall and whilst they awaited the final results, Matthew Ray was presented with the prestigious 'Commitment to Sport' award for 2015. The fabulous day of sport concluded with Jacob Walton proudly lifting the trophy as Bannister House were crowned champions for 2015.
