The opening night of Alice was a fantastic start to the three night run of this show. The stunning stage set really came alive with a fabulous rendition of 'Wonderland' by the Ensemble Chorus, shortly after Alice and the White Rabbit had taken centre stage for the first time.
Alice, played by Lauren Farnell, year 11, had a confusing time as she met the incredible characters in wonderland including the duck, dormouse, crab, dodo, eaglet and of course Tweedledum and Tweedledee. The highly amusing caterpillar gave Alice advice about where she was going before she encountered an array of coloured doors to choose from and her experiences became ever more curious.
Finding herself in the Duchess's Garden, Alice met the Duchess with her 'baby' in the pram and was delighted to meet the ever smiling Cheshire Cat. The squealing coming from the pram had the whole audience in fits of laughter.
After a short interval the curtains opened on the Mad Hatter's tea party where Alice met the Mad Hatter and the March Hare. Then it was into the enchanting Queen's Garden for a game of croquet played with flamingoes. The climax of the story saw the whole cast in the Garden Courtroom for an investigation into 'who stole the tarts?' with the characters giving evidence in turn at the trial, each in their own entertaining manner.
The whole cast gave excellent performances with outstanding singing accompanied by the very professional school band. The final ensemble and curtain call had rapturous applause from the audience.
Director, Miss K Owen, said: "I'm so proud of all the cast, it was an incredible first night."
