Chesterton Community Sports College has recently been granted the Fair Active Award by the Fairtrade Foundation. This is the second level of Fairtrade Status and builds upon the level one Fair Aware Award that the school gained in May 2014.
The whole school was involved in working towards this latest award. A Fairtrade Day was held during Fairtrade Fortnight 2015 and the focus was chocolate. Lessons across the curriculum in Key Stage 3 had a Fairtrade theme throughout the day. Two show piece events were held in the school foyer: 'Meet the Cocoa Farmers' and a Chocolate Tasting Market where everyone enjoyed tasting a variety of different Fairtrade chocolates. The chocolate was kindly donated by local businesses; The Co-op in Chesterton, Sainsburys on Liverpool Road, Morrisons at Milehouse and Asda at Wolstanton Retail Park.
A Fairtrade Group was established this year, as part of the School Council, so that pupils are involved in the planning and delivery of Fairtrade activities.
Mrs C Tilt visited Churchfields Primary School and gave an interactive presentation to Year 3 about Fairtrade chocolate production in Ghana.
Further details about our Fairtrade activities can be seen here.
