The Y9 basketball squad played their first league match against fierce rivals of the last few years, St John Fisher High School.
Having given St John Fisher a 10 point lead, the boys battled well and changed the game plan to be only three points down at the turn of the third quarter, thanks to two baskets in quick succession by Matt Ray.
With some super work at the start of the final quarter the boys blasted St John Fisher with three well worked baskets to have them rocking on their heels and putting us 20-17 up. However St John Fisher manged to recover and the score was 20-19 leaving our opponents with a single basket needed to retake the lead.
With only three minutes left Brad Salter broke quickly to run the length of the court and put us three points up. After a tense finish we recorded a winning start to the league with a score of 22-19.
The boys were absolutely overjoyed at the final whistle. Players included Brad Salter, Louis Stanyer (MVP), Ash Lovatt, Aaron Bellingham, Lewis Madeley, Jack Gibson, Joe Bratt, Jacob Walton, James Lowndes and Matt Ray.
