Chesterton Community Sports College carried on the tradition of rich success in the District Trampoline Competition in 2015.
Three teams were entered; one in the intermediate category and two in the beginners. Bouncers had been selected from the many that attend the after school club run in partnership with Norths Staffs Trampoline Club.
Emily Williams (Y7), Maisie Eccleston (Y8), Bethany Chell (Y8) and Bethany McFarlane (Y8) opened the competition for the intermediates. They had to perform one set routine that involved back and forward somersaults as well as complex twists and turns. For their second routine they could design their own and had to meet a set criteria of difficulty. The top three scores of each routine were then added to create an overall team score.
Likewise the beginners had their own set routine which required moves such as swivel hips, seat drops, full and half turns, as well as their own second routine. Chesterton A consisted of Jasmin Callan (Y7), Thomas Evenson (Y7) and Matthew Chau (Y9). Chesterton B was made up of Karlie Bourne (Y8), Bethany Heath (Y7) and Jessica Hall (Y7).
There was fantastic news in both categories of competition. The Intermediate squad won their category and claimed gold by a single point. In the process Emily Williams (Y7), who only took up trampolining in September, finished with the second highest score of the competition.
In the beginners Chesterton A claimed gold and the B squad silver. Jasmin Callan (Y7) who is also new to the sport scored the highest score in the category and Matthew Chau the third.
Both winning squads will now progress to the Staffordshire County competition as the Newcastle representatives. Congratulations to all of them on this superb achievement.
