The 2015 Junior District Athletics took place on Thursday 10th June at a very hot and sunny Northwood Stadium.
The heat and humidity made for testing conditions but the CCSC pupils performed well and returned to school with a number of medals. The Year 7 and 8 squads competed against schools from across Newcastle-under-Lyme in a variety of track and field events under the watchful gaze of a capacity crowd.
In the Year 7 age category Caitlin Dixon came 4th in the shot putt with a throw of 5m 70cm, Macy Isherwood was 4th in the 100m and Paige Taylor 5th in the 100m. Macy also finished 8th in the 800m and Paige 8th in the 1500m with good strong distance runs. For the boys Thomas Evenson finished 3rd in the 100m in a time of 13.32s.
The Year 8 squad brought further success with several athletes breaking into the top three spots. Thomas Lomax had a day to remember as he completed a hat trick of medals in each of his events. He won gold in the 800m by some distance in a time of 2m 22s. This was followed by silver in the 100m final and bronze in the high jump. Bradley Reynolds also collected gold over the 300m distance with class mate Cameron Aubrey finishing 3rd in the same final. Nathan Breeze earned the last of the medals in the long jump; he collected a silver for his jump of 4m 36cm.
Further performances of note go to Nathan Breeze's 5th place in the 200m final, Bradley Reynolds 7th in the 1500m, Cameron Aubrey's tied 8th place in the high jump, Joe Walton's joint 7th place for a throw of 7m 46cm in the shot putt and Colin Riley's 8th place finish in the discus throw.
The girls also performed well. Natasha Futter had a good day as she achieved two silver medals; she jumped 4m 18cm in the long jump and ran a 30.21s 200m race to claim her prizes. In addition she also registered a good 8th place in the high jump. Alongside Natasha in the 200m final was Beth Chell. She was pleased to finish 5th place and also ran a good 1500m to take 8th. Amy Tinsley made it through her 100m heat to run 15.22s and take 5th in the final whilst Maisie Booth threw her javelin out 15m 55cm, the 5th best throw in her competition.
Well done to all our athletics squad for their effort at clubs and in lessons. There were a number of personal bests set and we look forward to further successes next year. A gallery of photographs can be seen below. Please click on an image to enlarge it.
